From the Front Porch

I am an "accidental blogger". When I launched my writing career in March of 2014, one of the things that I decided to include was my journaling, which I have always found to be a comforting and therapeutic endeavor.  It was a big risk to open myself up in such a public forum, but it has taught me that, for the most part, we share far more experiences than we think. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!  (*the "Button Text" is the link to my first novel)

I often tell those close to me that they have a light inside of them that shines on everything and everyone they touch...that I find them wonderful or beautiful or words to that effect. I have used these words frequently in the Kindness Project I'm working on. But what does that really mean? Using terms like these often makes them sound rote and really don't do justice to the things that are truly special and inspiring about them.

When you shine your light on the world, it looks like...the smile someone puts on your face, especially in times when you don't even want to smile. It is the way another makes you feel included, thought of, cared for, important...as if your happiness matters to them. It is the way they can find the feelings of joy inside of you even when you, yourself, have no clue where you put them. These people are "wonderful" because just knowing them and being around them gives you hope. And couldn't we all use a bit more of that! They are "wonderful" because their positive energy engulfs you like a warm hug (...I vote for a daily hug quota!). They have the ability to turn an unhappy mood completely around! Sometimes a kind word from these people, at the right time, can even make you happy enough that you wanna dance (okay, maybe that's just me, but it's totally happened)!

If you are as fortunate as I am to have people like this in your life, let them know just how much you value them and be an example who reflects that same "light" onto others. My Kindness Project was launched to do just that. Feel free to steal my idea and apply it in your own life with reckless abandon!

    About The Author

I grew up in rural North Carolina. When I was only nineteen, I moved away and became a military wife. My only aspiration at that tender time in my life was to create an adult life that "fixed" all of the "injustices" of my childhood. Secretly, however, I wanted to reach for the sky! I wanted to be a writer and find ways to "save the world" (my mother used to say, "You have Save the World Syndrome".). Mostly, I wanted to matter.

Since then, I have learned to reach well beyond what I ever dared to think was possible. I've learned not to allow fear to stop me from whatever future I want to create!

What keeps me grounded? My Tribe! What provides the wind beneath my wings? A well of reserves filled with unstoppable passion!
