The Beginning...
From her hospital bed in rural North Carolina, my frail mother-in-law took my hand and said, "You think you have time, sweetheart. You don't. Write your books, tell your stories, and don't wait another day to chase and fulfill your dreams. When you've done that, dream bigger than you ever thought you could, because in the end you really have nothing to lose." Three days later, she was gone. That was in early 2014. The next month, I launched my writing career and I haven't regretted it a single day since! Until I started down this path, I didn't realize how much of myself I was holding back, tethered to conformity of society's ideals about who and what I was supposed to be. I was also afraid to stretch so far outside my comfort zone, but not anymore! Thanks, Mom for inspiring me and believing I could fly. And I want to thank all of you who are coming along for the ride, er, flight! Love, A. |
Novels & Books
|
My first novel, Desperate Measures, is about a young military wife who stumbles upon a terrorist plot that's about to take place on the base where she and her husband are stationed. Follow Abby as she struggles with her narrow view of the world shattering to bits. You can purchase the novel from https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/453309.
The sequel to Abby's adventure, A Fragile Balance, is coming soon! View the novels page for a sneak peek! A View From the Hill is a collection of short stories written by my Great-Aunt Mattie Shields ( and annotated by me). She always wanted to be a writer, but instead raised three generations of her family's children. I was her "last chickie" and I am happy I could make her dream come true! All of the proceeds from this book will go to the church youth program at College Park Baptist Church, where she was a lifetime member. You can purchase the short story collection from https://www.amazon.com/View-Hill-Short-Story-Collection/dp/1503255492/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1514402267&sr=8-1&keywords=A+View+from+the+Hill+Amy+M+Schaefer The Dragon's Egg is the children's book I'm currently working on. Blog Articles

I've been journaling since I was in my teens. I always found it cathartic to have an outlet where I could pour out strong emotions and help clear my head. The blog was created in the spirit of journalers everywhere. It is, perhaps, the most difficult thing I write, as many of the topics are raw and difficult for me to share. This facet of my writing feels the most like "bleeding on the page", but its reception has been welcomed with open arms by my readers and it has grown far beyond my wildest dreams! Feel free to stop by and sit a spell! I keep the articles short and welcome any and all commentary!
