From the Front Porch

I am an "accidental blogger". When I launched my writing career in March of 2014, one of the things that I decided to include was my journaling, which I have always found to be a comforting and therapeutic endeavor.  It was a big risk to open myself up in such a public forum, but it has taught me that, for the most part, we share far more experiences than we think. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!  (*the "Button Text" is the link to my first novel)

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference." ~from The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

I don't know why we feel compelled to make plans. Most of the plans we make end up lost in dusty corners in the same place where the mates to our socks from the dryer go. When I look in the rearview mirror of my life, I just have to smile and shake my head. Most of the stops behind me were not to any destination I ever intended on going. That actually almost always turns out to be a good thing. Perhaps we are all following paths that are unpredictable. Does that mean we walk through our lives horribly lost? It certainly feels that way, especially when nothing turns out the way you expected (..which happens to me a lot)! I keep remembering the conversation Alice has with the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland. She asks him, "Which road should I take?" and he replies, "Where do you wish to go?" She says, "I don't know," and his response is, "Then it doesn't really matter which road you choose."

As I walk my current path, I need to remind myself to be present on THAT path, in that moment, with all that I am. Take in the view, enjoy the company I come across along the way, and stop on occasion to enjoy and investigate my surroundings. I have no idea where this path leads to, probably yet another one! I'm excited and a bit scared to find out what's ahead but look forward to the journey.

    About The Author

I grew up in rural North Carolina. When I was only nineteen, I moved away and became a military wife. My only aspiration at that tender time in my life was to create an adult life that "fixed" all of the "injustices" of my childhood. Secretly, however, I wanted to reach for the sky! I wanted to be a writer and find ways to "save the world" (my mother used to say, "You have Save the World Syndrome".). Mostly, I wanted to matter.

Since then, I have learned to reach well beyond what I ever dared to think was possible. I've learned not to allow fear to stop me from whatever future I want to create!

What keeps me grounded? My Tribe! What provides the wind beneath my wings? A well of reserves filled with unstoppable passion!
