From the Front Porch

I am an "accidental blogger". When I launched my writing career in March of 2014, one of the things that I decided to include was my journaling, which I have always found to be a comforting and therapeutic endeavor.  It was a big risk to open myself up in such a public forum, but it has taught me that, for the most part, we share far more experiences than we think. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!  (*the "Button Text" is the link to my first novel)

What Kind of World Do You Want?

"My country is the world, and my religion is to do good." ~Thomas Paine

There's a lot of turmoil in our Nation, our world. All I have to do to see it is turn on The Today Show every morning while I'm getting ready for my day. Historically speaking, this has always been the case but it doesn't have to be. As I sit here writing and listening to Robins chirping (which is preferable to a stream of incessant bad news), I wonder why we continue to live in a world full of upheaval. Why must we hand over generation after generation a world full of hate, greed, lies, manipulation, hunger, poverty, intolerance, or worse indifference? With the upcoming celebrations for our Nation's independence, I wonder what the next decade, century will bring.

If I have learned anything from writing my weekly blog articles it is that we are not so different at our core from one corner of the globe to the next. People who live in places all over this planet have commented to me the similarities they share with my own experiences. Honestly, I am still in a "just WOW" frame of mind at that simple grain of truth. Freedom to be who we are, love whomever we love, pray the way we want (or not), and live alongside one another in peace should be a given. The fact that it's just not shows that humanity still has a very long way to go.

I am stepping away from social media until Monday. It is my fervent hope that someday soon we will take decisive steps towards building a better world. That is the legacy I want to pass on to my grandson who is due next month.

May your weekend overflow with love.

Always,
A.

    About The Author

I grew up in rural North Carolina. When I was only nineteen, I moved away and became a military wife. My only aspiration at that tender time in my life was to create an adult life that "fixed" all of the "injustices" of my childhood. Secretly, however, I wanted to reach for the sky! I wanted to be a writer and find ways to "save the world" (my mother used to say, "You have Save the World Syndrome".). Mostly, I wanted to matter.

Since then, I have learned to reach well beyond what I ever dared to think was possible. I've learned not to allow fear to stop me from whatever future I want to create!

What keeps me grounded? My Tribe! What provides the wind beneath my wings? A well of reserves filled with unstoppable passion!
