From the Front Porch

I am an "accidental blogger". When I launched my writing career in March of 2014, one of the things that I decided to include was my journaling, which I have always found to be a comforting and therapeutic endeavor.  It was a big risk to open myself up in such a public forum, but it has taught me that, for the most part, we share far more experiences than we think. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!  (*the "Button Text" is the link to my first novel)

The Value of an Hour

"The time you enjoy wasting was not wasted." ~John Lennon

So many people I know spend day after day, week after week caught in a loop of mundane. I, too, am not immune to this auto-pilot of triviality. I do, however, make a conscious effort to constantly inject life into my life, meaning into my day other than working to pay bills, or keeping up on chores that seemingly have no end. If I had zero limitations (Ha!), how would I fill up the hours left to me in this life? As I click through the mental list that this question evokes, I realize that for the most part I am actively doing the things I'd want to do if given carte blanche'. Perhaps I'd be doing them on a grander sccale, but I'm not unhappy with the means I have currently available!

I travel, read books, spend time with tiny humans, enjoy the company of my friends an family, dance (if only in my kitchen or the back deck), sing (quite badly in the shower or bath), and stop every once in awhile to appreciate Mother Earth. Not a bad life, no matter how you slice it!

If today were my last day, I could honestly say I've had a simple life but boy has it been full! As a butterfly glides over my head with a backdrop of one perfectly blue sky, I am reminded of the peace that is settled into my bones, along with the chaos that has brought me here. It's taken many years for me to truly learn the value of an hour, but that lesson has become a part of who I am now and I will never squander another one on anything that does not bring me joy. The trick is finding joy in all the "must do's" and making time for the "want to's".

May your Monday, your EVERY day be full of things and people who matter.

Always,
A.

    About The Author

I grew up in rural North Carolina. When I was only nineteen, I moved away and became a military wife. My only aspiration at that tender time in my life was to create an adult life that "fixed" all of the "injustices" of my childhood. Secretly, however, I wanted to reach for the sky! I wanted to be a writer and find ways to "save the world" (my mother used to say, "You have Save the World Syndrome".). Mostly, I wanted to matter.

Since then, I have learned to reach well beyond what I ever dared to think was possible. I've learned not to allow fear to stop me from whatever future I want to create!

What keeps me grounded? My Tribe! What provides the wind beneath my wings? A well of reserves filled with unstoppable passion!
