From the Front Porch

I am an "accidental blogger". When I launched my writing career in March of 2014, one of the things that I decided to include was my journaling, which I have always found to be a comforting and therapeutic endeavor.  It was a big risk to open myself up in such a public forum, but it has taught me that, for the most part, we share far more experiences than we think. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!  (*the "Button Text" is the link to my first novel)

"Life doesn't give you the people you want, it gives you the people you need: to love you, to hate you, to make you, to break you and to make you the person you were meant to be." ~ author Unknown

I believe that every person comes into our lives for a reason...from the check-out person at the bookstore, to the catty co-worker who treats you unkindly, to the people, either friend or family, who build you up when you are down, share laughter and joy with you, and hold you close through your sorrows (...which is reciprocal, as you do the same for them). No random, chance encounters, only humans, crossing paths with one another day after day and the opportunity to harm or help everyone we meet. Someone recently asked me, "What is your biggest goal in life?" As I thought about all of my aspirations for the future, the common theme centered around people. I want to make a difference. I want my life to spread positive ripples into the sea of "others" everywhere I go. Below outlines my vision on how to accomplish that...

Financial gain with my writing career--allowing me the freedom to do good things helping others (i.e. buying books for schools who really need them or creating scholarships to send deserving, hard-working kids to college). Building my home in the North Carolina mountains--giving me an opportunity to belong to a community where I feel welcomed and of value. Baring my soul in my blog articles--provides me with an outlet for my demons, so that I may purge them and heal, while hopefully lending comfort to others with shared experiences. And writing fiction, telling stories--allows people (as well as myself) a way to escape from the confines and worries of everyday life, with the hope that it will bring them joy! Every person is a connection, even if it's just a stranger who smiles at you and causes you to smile back. Every connection is a building block, helping us create who we are meant to be. And every relationship is a story...all of which write themselves, chapter by chapter, onto the pages of our lives.

    About The Author

I grew up in rural North Carolina. When I was only nineteen, I moved away and became a military wife. My only aspiration at that tender time in my life was to create an adult life that "fixed" all of the "injustices" of my childhood. Secretly, however, I wanted to reach for the sky! I wanted to be a writer and find ways to "save the world" (my mother used to say, "You have Save the World Syndrome".). Mostly, I wanted to matter.

Since then, I have learned to reach well beyond what I ever dared to think was possible. I've learned not to allow fear to stop me from whatever future I want to create!

What keeps me grounded? My Tribe! What provides the wind beneath my wings? A well of reserves filled with unstoppable passion!
