From the Front Porch

I am an "accidental blogger". When I launched my writing career in March of 2014, one of the things that I decided to include was my journaling, which I have always found to be a comforting and therapeutic endeavor.  It was a big risk to open myself up in such a public forum, but it has taught me that, for the most part, we share far more experiences than we think. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!  (*the "Button Text" is the link to my first novel)

Ordinary Days

"In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in those years." ~Abraham Lincoln

We all have these days, the ones filled with laundry and dusting, mowing grass and pulling weeds...days that seem to hum around the ordinary activities of just living. We allow ourselves to become oblivious to the fact that no single day will ever return and all of our days are numbered. Each moment, each hour is quietly slipping away on the Universal timeline and we let them do it under the general guise that "there will be time for _____________ (insert extraordinary activity here)", not knowing, if in fact there will be. Does that mean we allow those chores to pile up or merely go "undone" indefinitely, while we focus on more exciting activities? I don't know about anyone else, but I can't function or even think straight if my "Safe Harbour", my home, is in a crazy state of disarray. What I can do, however, is make it a point to insert wondrous things into the ordinary...a time-out to read, or a dance with my very willing vacuum cleaner partner and perhaps a date at the end of a long day with my rubber ducky, a glass of wine, and a hot bath full of a mountain of bubbles! These simple things are the spice I add to my own life, as for me NO day is complete unless it leaves a clear taste on my tongue before I fall asleep (...aside from the minty freshness of my Crest)!

The most precious thing we have to give one another, besides our love and kindness, is our time. Make time for the people and things that make you happy. Take an intermission from laundry and go out in the sunshine with a bottle of bubbles. A life not fully lived is a life wasted and life is far to precious to waste and spill even a single drop. Don't waste them! Squish and squeeze every ounce of flavor out of each second before it scoots passed you, so that when it does, it's out of breath, ravished by your spirit!

    About The Author

I grew up in rural North Carolina. When I was only nineteen, I moved away and became a military wife. My only aspiration at that tender time in my life was to create an adult life that "fixed" all of the "injustices" of my childhood. Secretly, however, I wanted to reach for the sky! I wanted to be a writer and find ways to "save the world" (my mother used to say, "You have Save the World Syndrome".). Mostly, I wanted to matter.

Since then, I have learned to reach well beyond what I ever dared to think was possible. I've learned not to allow fear to stop me from whatever future I want to create!

What keeps me grounded? My Tribe! What provides the wind beneath my wings? A well of reserves filled with unstoppable passion!
