From the Front Porch

I am an "accidental blogger". When I launched my writing career in March of 2014, one of the things that I decided to include was my journaling, which I have always found to be a comforting and therapeutic endeavor.  It was a big risk to open myself up in such a public forum, but it has taught me that, for the most part, we share far more experiences than we think. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!  (*the "Button Text" is the link to my first novel)

Miracles in Tiny Packages

"Sometimes when I need a miracle, I look into my daughters eyes, and realize I've already created one."

The day Hannah Marie came into this world was one of the most frightening days of my life. Nine and a half weeks premature, she weighed in at only 3 lbs. 6 ozs., and lost down to 2 lbs. 12 ozs. before she started gaining weight. Until that day, I didn't know something so small could become my whole world! She has taught me many other lessons in the twenty-two years since that day (Well, almost that long...she will be 22 in August.).

She taught me an entire new level of love I had not known existed until I became a mother. She also taught me the true meaning of the word hope. In those first months of her life, I held on to that hope while we cared for and nurtured her, and watched her grow stronger every day. That teenie, tiny beauty was such a fighter, daring anything that got in the way! She enchanted her nurses, astounded her doctors and quietly leaped over every hurdle that got in her way. I discovered the truth inside of the tiny word joy every time I looked into her blue eyes.

This weekend, my not so little baby will be confirmed and proclaim to the world her commitment to the Faith she is wrapping around herself, but even before her birth she was already a beloved child of God. I am humbled that he allowed me to be her mother and I've been blessed by every moment I've had the pleasure of her presence in my life. My message today is for her and comes from Conversations With God, Book 1 by Neale Donald Walsch.

"You are goodness and mercy and compassion and understanding. You are peace and light. You are forgiveness and patience, strength and courage, a helper in time of need, a comforter in time of sorrow, a healer in time of injury, a teacher in times of confusion. You are the deepest wisdom and the highest truth; the greatest peace and the grandest love. You are these things. And in moments of your life you have known yourself as these things. Choose now to know yourself as these things always." (pp.86-87)

    About The Author

I grew up in rural North Carolina. When I was only nineteen, I moved away and became a military wife. My only aspiration at that tender time in my life was to create an adult life that "fixed" all of the "injustices" of my childhood. Secretly, however, I wanted to reach for the sky! I wanted to be a writer and find ways to "save the world" (my mother used to say, "You have Save the World Syndrome".). Mostly, I wanted to matter.

Since then, I have learned to reach well beyond what I ever dared to think was possible. I've learned not to allow fear to stop me from whatever future I want to create!

What keeps me grounded? My Tribe! What provides the wind beneath my wings? A well of reserves filled with unstoppable passion!
