From the Front Porch

I am an "accidental blogger". When I launched my writing career in March of 2014, one of the things that I decided to include was my journaling, which I have always found to be a comforting and therapeutic endeavor.  It was a big risk to open myself up in such a public forum, but it has taught me that, for the most part, we share far more experiences than we think. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!  (*the "Button Text" is the link to my first novel)

Life Lessons from Mother Nature

"There will come a time when you believe everything is finished. That will be the beginning." ~author Unknown

A warm breeze softly caresses the pages of the book I'm working on. I couldn't resist the siren's call of this first glimpse of Spring, so I brought my work out onto the deck. I curled up in a chair and spread out my pens, highlighters and notes over the table sitting in the afternoon sun. Patiently, meticulously I dive into the novel I'm creating, but it doesn't take long for the birds to interrupt my thoughts with their happy chatter while the melodious windchimes serenade me. It is a welcome distraction, my characters and plot development on hold as I soak up this sneaky little tease of warm weather. I can still see remnants of our last snow nestled in the leaves up in the woods, which makes the sunshine feel even more decadent.

Soon the trees will lose their dead look, as buds of green burst into flowers...but not yet. Winter's not quite done with us. Today, however, winter's reprieve is merely a promise. A promise that new beauty is always closer than you think. A promise that wondrous things will grow by sheer force of will from places that appear stark and lifeless. Mother Nature is abundant with useful life lessons if we bother to stop and look, listen and take her wisdom to heart. I try to focus on my work, but the wind plays with my hair, tickling my face and reminding me, "Put down your pen. Play with me awhile." A crow from the tree nearby squawks his approval. How could anyone resist such an invitation?

    About The Author

I grew up in rural North Carolina. When I was only nineteen, I moved away and became a military wife. My only aspiration at that tender time in my life was to create an adult life that "fixed" all of the "injustices" of my childhood. Secretly, however, I wanted to reach for the sky! I wanted to be a writer and find ways to "save the world" (my mother used to say, "You have Save the World Syndrome".). Mostly, I wanted to matter.

Since then, I have learned to reach well beyond what I ever dared to think was possible. I've learned not to allow fear to stop me from whatever future I want to create!

What keeps me grounded? My Tribe! What provides the wind beneath my wings? A well of reserves filled with unstoppable passion!
