From the Front Porch

I am an "accidental blogger". When I launched my writing career in March of 2014, one of the things that I decided to include was my journaling, which I have always found to be a comforting and therapeutic endeavor.  It was a big risk to open myself up in such a public forum, but it has taught me that, for the most part, we share far more experiences than we think. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!  (*the "Button Text" is the link to my first novel)

I think one of the best things about getting older (...and digging down deep into who we really are) is how much we come to understand what's important and what isn't. Man, when we're young do we get it WRONG! I think I spent nearly a decade exhausted from trying to please everyone, force myself to fit into this box or that, and for what? At this stage of my life, I am acutely aware of what a fruitless endeavor THAT is! I feel like I've been hiding myself deep down while being bombarded by the expectations and labels of society. It's amazing to shed that crap like some oily skin, look at myself in a mirror, and see the whole truth of who I really am. It's a hoot discovering how silly I am underneath that pragmatic, sometimes prudish exterior!

So, I find myself on this wild road with my authentic self, and dang is it fun! Where I once thought my duty, my goals had all been attained, turns out there was a whole host of new stuff just waiting for me to uncover! Life is going to throw enough horrible things at us. We shouldn't waste time or make that journey more difficult by adding self-induced stumbling blocks to our path (...that is as much a reminder for me as it is a suggestion to anyone else). Whatever is up ahead for all of us, I hope you'll come with me into the wild...and even if we're just passing by en route, I will sincerely wish you a good journey wherever those wilds should take you!

"It's all messy,
the hair,
the bed,
the words,
the heart,
LIFE!" ~William Leal

    About The Author

I grew up in rural North Carolina. When I was only nineteen, I moved away and became a military wife. My only aspiration at that tender time in my life was to create an adult life that "fixed" all of the "injustices" of my childhood. Secretly, however, I wanted to reach for the sky! I wanted to be a writer and find ways to "save the world" (my mother used to say, "You have Save the World Syndrome".). Mostly, I wanted to matter.

Since then, I have learned to reach well beyond what I ever dared to think was possible. I've learned not to allow fear to stop me from whatever future I want to create!

What keeps me grounded? My Tribe! What provides the wind beneath my wings? A well of reserves filled with unstoppable passion!
