From the Front Porch

I am an "accidental blogger". When I launched my writing career in March of 2014, one of the things that I decided to include was my journaling, which I have always found to be a comforting and therapeutic endeavor.  It was a big risk to open myself up in such a public forum, but it has taught me that, for the most part, we share far more experiences than we think. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!  (*the "Button Text" is the link to my first novel)

Do You Believe In Magic?

"Children see magic because they look for it." ~Christopher Moore

Today I painted my toenails witchy green. I know, stop the press right??? There is a point I promise, and I'll get to it post haste. As a child, my most favored Halloween costume was a witch...from sweet, innocent witch (when I was little) to a more sexy Elvira look (in my late teens and early twenties). This wasn't an accident of happenstance, as I've spent my whole life looking for fairy tale type magic or the hero who would save me. I have learned, however, that while people come into our lives all the time to help bolster our spirit, build up our strength, and offer a hand to hold when we're afraid, ultimately it is up to us to save ourselves!

No knight in shining armor who'll ride in and and rescue the girl, even though my image was always a knight with blood-soaked, rusty, dented armor (...which actually explains a lot)! I'm learning how to rescue myself and sometimes I require a little nudge from the Universe, a dose of magic, and the security blanket of love from my family and friends that I cling to mightily. Why are my toes witchy green? Because at forty-five, I'm still not too old to believe in magic or the witchy powers I possess to create it!

P.S. On a side-note, I did my "work" today mostly barefooted and outdoors! Being a writer full-time doesn't suck!

    About The Author

I grew up in rural North Carolina. When I was only nineteen, I moved away and became a military wife. My only aspiration at that tender time in my life was to create an adult life that "fixed" all of the "injustices" of my childhood. Secretly, however, I wanted to reach for the sky! I wanted to be a writer and find ways to "save the world" (my mother used to say, "You have Save the World Syndrome".). Mostly, I wanted to matter.

Since then, I have learned to reach well beyond what I ever dared to think was possible. I've learned not to allow fear to stop me from whatever future I want to create!

What keeps me grounded? My Tribe! What provides the wind beneath my wings? A well of reserves filled with unstoppable passion!
