From the Front Porch

I am an "accidental blogger". When I launched my writing career in March of 2014, one of the things that I decided to include was my journaling, which I have always found to be a comforting and therapeutic endeavor.  It was a big risk to open myself up in such a public forum, but it has taught me that, for the most part, we share far more experiences than we think. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!  (*the "Button Text" is the link to my first novel)

"Books wash away from the soul the dust of everyday life." ~author Unknown

I came downstairs this morning and picked up the book I started a couple of days ago to keep me company over my bowl of oatmeal. I've been dragging my feet on this book because it's by one of my all-time favorite authors, and I know the power she has to cast a spell on me that won't let go until the last word has been read. The men in her books are often dark, broody and full of rough edges, while the ladies are head-strong, spirited, intelligent and likeable. It's not the characters that mesmerize me, however, even though they are rich and vibrant, people I'd want to know in real life. Her stories are what captivate me in childlike fascination, drawing me in as if I were actually there, and leaving me to ache with a sense of loss that I'm not, when my own world finally crashes down in stark reality. I remember reading her book A Garden in the Rain and discovering that the real world was just carrying on as if nothing spectacular had just happened. It seemed criminally out of sync!

When I began this new book, Dreams of Lilacs, I allowed myself only the luxury of chapter one, but today over breakfast by the time I got to page twenty-six all was lost. I knew I wouldn't be able to resist finishing it and hesitate to even stop long enough to write the blog article for today. I only do so in order to express my utter joy in sharing with you the magic that can come in a spill of words, pouring out over your life and leaving behind the sense that something wonderful just happened that feels like a grand secret between you and the Universe. If you have yet to experience this transformation, I highly recommend that you seek out a book that will help you achieve such bliss!

    About The Author

I grew up in rural North Carolina. When I was only nineteen, I moved away and became a military wife. My only aspiration at that tender time in my life was to create an adult life that "fixed" all of the "injustices" of my childhood. Secretly, however, I wanted to reach for the sky! I wanted to be a writer and find ways to "save the world" (my mother used to say, "You have Save the World Syndrome".). Mostly, I wanted to matter.

Since then, I have learned to reach well beyond what I ever dared to think was possible. I've learned not to allow fear to stop me from whatever future I want to create!

What keeps me grounded? My Tribe! What provides the wind beneath my wings? A well of reserves filled with unstoppable passion!
