From the Front Porch

I am an "accidental blogger". When I launched my writing career in March of 2014, one of the things that I decided to include was my journaling, which I have always found to be a comforting and therapeutic endeavor.  It was a big risk to open myself up in such a public forum, but it has taught me that, for the most part, we share far more experiences than we think. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!  (*the "Button Text" is the link to my first novel)

Day Sixty-seven: Elevate Your Sense of Purpose

"If you ask me what I came into this life to do, I will tell you I came to live out loud." ~Emile Zola

A casual friend told me the other day, "I eat, sleep, workout, go to work, repeat. Dull." My initial reaction was being horrified at a life spent merely existing from one day to the next, stuck in blind survival mode. I think I was so bothered by his comment because I'm guilty of doing the same. How many times in the 45 years of my own life have I just survived? The answer is, too many...and that will NOT work for me. I mean, what's the point if that's all we're doing from day to day, existing, breathing oxygen, taking up space? Perhaps some souls are perfectly content with living a life of such utter simplicity, but not mine. My soul needs a constant "feeding" of purpose. I need to "matter" in big and little ways every single day, confident that my mere existence is not for naught.

My author's website, my daily blogs, the books I've written over the ten months of my writing career all lend themselves to that sense of purpose. As I'm writing, I'm always asking myself: "How many others could be helped or inspired by this? How can I use my voice for good? and How can I ease another's burdens, which in turn puts balm on my own?" These are all driving factors for every word I put to a page. Since my focus for 2015 is to go in the direction of my dreams, it is time to elevate my own sense of purpose towards that goal. I don't know what that will look like, yet, but I can't wait to see the shape it takes! If I can inspire one, or a hundred, or a thousand to do the same...even better!

    About The Author

I grew up in rural North Carolina. When I was only nineteen, I moved away and became a military wife. My only aspiration at that tender time in my life was to create an adult life that "fixed" all of the "injustices" of my childhood. Secretly, however, I wanted to reach for the sky! I wanted to be a writer and find ways to "save the world" (my mother used to say, "You have Save the World Syndrome".). Mostly, I wanted to matter.

Since then, I have learned to reach well beyond what I ever dared to think was possible. I've learned not to allow fear to stop me from whatever future I want to create!

What keeps me grounded? My Tribe! What provides the wind beneath my wings? A well of reserves filled with unstoppable passion!
