From the Front Porch

I am an "accidental blogger". When I launched my writing career in March of 2014, one of the things that I decided to include was my journaling, which I have always found to be a comforting and therapeutic endeavor.  It was a big risk to open myself up in such a public forum, but it has taught me that, for the most part, we share far more experiences than we think. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!  (*the "Button Text" is the link to my first novel)

"The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all." ~The Emperor, Mulan

Sleep has been elusive, of late...too many troubles on my mind and not enough ways to make my brain shut up. Today has been particularly stressful, so I spent the afternoon eating chocolate kisses and watching Disney movies with my oldest daughter (a rare treat). My girls are Disney fanatics who know the words to nearly all of the songs, are prone to quoting movie lines at random, and are hard core in their opinions about favorite characters and moral messages from each story. Before my girls were born, I had no real discernible opinions on Disney anything, but the magic of pixie dust settled in my skin as I watched the girls growing up with this deep-rooted fascination and connection to the fantastical tales. When I see a Disney movie now, it immediately conjures up thoughts of innocence and simpler times, which is just what the doctor ordered for today. As for an excuse to the sweet treat indulgence...is there anytime that's not a good time for chocolate???

My favorite Disney movie is Mulan (...the quote above reflects the reason why), and below you'll find my best-loved Disney tune. The "happy" focuses in my day today are spending time with my daughter and enjoying simple pleasures. Sure, the things making all of our lives stressful still loom on the horizon, but the ability to find joy in each day is definitely a win. Joy also makes the worries far less fearful. Peter Pan would add, "All the world is made of faith, trust, and pixie dust." I'll have a double dose of each with a side of chocolate, please.

    About The Author

I grew up in rural North Carolina. When I was only nineteen, I moved away and became a military wife. My only aspiration at that tender time in my life was to create an adult life that "fixed" all of the "injustices" of my childhood. Secretly, however, I wanted to reach for the sky! I wanted to be a writer and find ways to "save the world" (my mother used to say, "You have Save the World Syndrome".). Mostly, I wanted to matter.

Since then, I have learned to reach well beyond what I ever dared to think was possible. I've learned not to allow fear to stop me from whatever future I want to create!

What keeps me grounded? My Tribe! What provides the wind beneath my wings? A well of reserves filled with unstoppable passion!
