From the Front Porch

I am an "accidental blogger". When I launched my writing career in March of 2014, one of the things that I decided to include was my journaling, which I have always found to be a comforting and therapeutic endeavor.  It was a big risk to open myself up in such a public forum, but it has taught me that, for the most part, we share far more experiences than we think. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!  (*the "Button Text" is the link to my first novel)

"100 Days of Happy"

The last few days have been filled with some considerable turbulence, which actually makes today the perfect day to begin my series "100 Days of Happy." I mean let's face it, it's easy to be happy when everything is going just right. It's much more of a challenge to dig into the "happy" when things are kinda wild and rocky. Aunt Mattie's favorite quote, "Life is what you make it, and the world is how you take it," is especially poignant when faced with life's adversities. We all have them. They are part of "living" and they come in a wide array of sizes, from a drop to a churning sea, and every phase in the in-between spaces. Do we allow ourselves to be battered, bruised, and controlled by these things that rattle our "happy"? Sometimes it's extremely difficult not to. In his infinite wisdom, my father would postulate, "So, how's that working for you?" This makes me smile because I can hear him as clearly in my head posing that question as if he were sitting here in my kitchen saying it. Allowing myself to focus on the negative, even when it's so loud it almost demands my undivided attention, doesn't work for me AT ALL!  There ya go Daddy. There's your answer (this time)!

So, with that thought in mind, my focuses today are:
*A life full of people I love, who love me unconditionally in return
*A career that fills me with more joy than my body can contain
*A body that is healthy and a heart that is at peace
*A spirituality that strongly connects me to the Universe and my Faith
*And finally, Hope...for the now, as well as the future. It may be tattered, dented, and chipped off in places, but it still holds together and goes with me every step of the way along my journey.

I don't know what's going on in the lives of you, my readers. It is my fervent wish that whatever it is, whatever you must face up ahead on your own journey, you do so with love in your heart and an occasional "dance" in your step. Find at least ten things to be happy about each day...and no cheating! No reusing the same things over and over! Be sure to have at least a few "new" things on your list each day. 100 Days of Happy...let's do this! GO!

    About The Author

I grew up in rural North Carolina. When I was only nineteen, I moved away and became a military wife. My only aspiration at that tender time in my life was to create an adult life that "fixed" all of the "injustices" of my childhood. Secretly, however, I wanted to reach for the sky! I wanted to be a writer and find ways to "save the world" (my mother used to say, "You have Save the World Syndrome".). Mostly, I wanted to matter.

Since then, I have learned to reach well beyond what I ever dared to think was possible. I've learned not to allow fear to stop me from whatever future I want to create!

What keeps me grounded? My Tribe! What provides the wind beneath my wings? A well of reserves filled with unstoppable passion!
